Thesis Title: Beyond Conventional Boundaries: New Technologies, Methodologies, and Procedures for the Benefit of Aerial Archaeological Data Acquisition and Analysis
About
Geert Verhoeven (°1978) received the Master’s degree in archaeology from Ghent University in 2002. Afterwards, he developed new technologies, methodologies, and data processing procedures for the benefit of aerial archaeological data acquisition and analysis, for which he received the PhD degree in 2009.
Since 2010, Geert is working part-time at UGent as a lecturer on archaeological IT and aerial archaeology. His main activity is, however, situated in Vienna as one of the researchers in the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Archaeological Prospection & Virtual Archaeology (LBI). In the framework of the LBI, Geert’s research concerns new acquisition and processing methods for archaeological airborne hyperspectral imaging as well as automated georeferencing of oblique aerial imagery.
Besides, his main interests concern scientific photography, 3D reconstruction methods, geomatics, and archaeological computing.
